When I first went to Art School I got quickly convinced that I could not paint. I also got very frustrated with this fact as I had plenty of ideas that I didn’t seem to be able to translate into the canvas.
Years later, when trying to encourage my partner to paint - he was an artist experiencing his own “block” - I started painting again. This time I had no objective to be a serious artist and because of this I started actually enjoying the process of painting itself.
I used it as form of meditation and a way to freely experiment without worrying about the final result. I also started to realize how painting as a discipline has a lot to teach me: it is about self acceptance, trust and patience, fearlessness, courage and humour.
